Questions and answers

Answers to what clients ask before a studio project begins

How we work, what we need from you and what to expect when you ask about studio design, camera systems, lighting, sound or live event support.

Frequently asked questions

These are the questions producers and studio managers raise most often. If yours is not covered here, send it through the contact page and we will reply in writing.

  1. What kinds of projects do you take on?

We work on new or refitted television studios, camera and control system specification, lighting plots, audio chains and gallery workflows, and technical planning for conferences and live broadcasts. Projects range from a single set refit to a full studio layout. If your work sits outside these areas, we will say so plainly rather than stretch to fit it.

  2. Do you supply or sell equipment?

No. We advise, plan and specify, but we do not sell hardware or take commission from suppliers. That keeps our recommendations tied to what your productions need and your budget. We can help you compare options and write a specification that suppliers can quote against, so you are choosing between like-for-like proposals.

  3. How do I start an enquiry?

Use the contact form on the contact page, or call 01225 480317 or write to [email protected]. Tell us what you are producing, the space you have and roughly when you need it ready. We read every enquiry, reply in writing and, if it suits both sides, send a quotation.

  4. What should I prepare before we talk?

A floor plan or room dimensions, if you have them, are the most useful. Also helpful are the type of programmes you make, how many people work in the space and any equipment you already own. None of this has to be complete. We can work from rough notes and fill the gaps together.

  5. Can you work with a studio we already have?

Yes. Many of our projects improve an existing room rather than start from empty space. We look at sightlines, cable routes, lighting positions and gallery workflow as they stand, then suggest changes in a sensible order so you can keep producing while the work is carried out.

  6. Will you come to site?

For live event support we work on site, planning the technical layout and briefing crew. For design and systems advice, a site visit is agreed case by case once we understand the project. We confirm in the quotation what is included, so there are no surprises.

  7. How long does a piece of work take?

It depends on the scope. A lighting plot for a single set takes far less time than a full studio design with cable routing. We give an estimate in the written quotation, based on what you tell us, and we say so early if the timing you need looks unrealistic.

  8. How are prices set and how do I pay?

Prices are listed on the prices page, and your quotation confirms the figure for your project. Payment is by invoice and bank transfer after we have agreed the work in writing. Nothing is paid through this website. Cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refund policy.
